In This Episode

In this episode, Nick and Elijah look at the roots of toxic masculinity and explore how we could redesign sex education for male adolescents. Join us for 1 hour as we share our own experiences of sex education as kids, unpack how our current approach to sex education is harming us, and conceptualize a new digital-first sexual education grounded in spiritual alignment.

This is the first episode in our new How Might We series, where every fortnight we explore a pressing societal issue related to our monthly design theme. Structured like an informal design sprint, we start with root causes and widespread pain points, and work through to a series of digital product concepts that we believe would help solve the problem.

Highlights

01:34 — "What is it that we weren't taught as kids?" about sex
11:36 — First sexual experiences and the lack of guidance on how to navigate them
13:57 — The value of a safe space to talk about sex
16:40 — Over-viewership of pornography, excess masturbation and testosterone dropping 50% in the last 3 decades in the US
21:18 — 3 pillars of a newly designed sex education experience
24:47 — How sexual energy is creative energy (root chakra) that can be channeled in constructive ways
28:49 — Highest impact areas for a newly designed sex education system to focus on
30:58 — Teaching bodily intuition so kids can develop emotional intelligence and control over their sexual energy

Modern Mantra Podcast

Each month we publish 4x podcasts around one of our core design themes, looking at the roots of our modern spiritual imbalance and conceptualizing new ways to use technology to help the world heal.

In our How Might We podcasts, we start with a specific design question, unearth widespread societal pain points, and conceptualize new Design Solutions that can help solve them.

In our Guest podcasts, we talk with conscious founders about their journey building heart-centered technology.

The podcast is hosted by the studio's two founders, Nick Sarafa and Elijah Johnston. Both have extensive backgrounds in all parts technology and entrepreneurship as well as personal healing journeys that involve deep work in spiritual realms.
